great expectations foundations!
This is the frame that will soon become my new deck and outdoor entertainment area. I am very excited as it's been a long time in the planning stages. Finally this week, my husband has started building the frame.
This is where our new deck will be placed. We live in what was once Queensland workers' cottage built somewhere between 1905 - 1908. Of course, it has changed a little since then. Old deck was removed as white ants had destroyed most of the frame. The glass door to the left of the photo is the opening to my glass studio.
Late yesterday afternoon, the footings were all in place and the frame has begun to take shape! The photo was taken from our dining room window and gives a better indication of how big the space will actually be!
It's been a few weeks since I last posted but we are on track again. Earlier this week, we were able to order some more wood for the deck - it was delivered in record time - the smiles were free!
We couldn't resist moving the large pots on the deck to see how the final project will look. Of course, there is a lot more work to do but I can see now how big the area will be!
From this view, you can see how the area has changed. This is the same space as that in photo #2. The deck lounge has now made its way onto the platform. Can you tell we are keen?
The platform has finally been finished! The edges are trimmed and the steps in place. From the upper deck (project #2) Saki sits and contemplates the space below!
Oiling the deck on a hot and sticky day was enough to give us ALL head spins - but the results were worth it! From above you can see just how much space we have to play with!
... am loving my new Moroccan floor lamps! (an early birthday present from me to me) We bought some brackets and fixed them to the spa wall. A simple tea light candle is enough to make them shine! The potted Yukka plants will eventually make their way to the upper deck once it's finished.
The weekend just gone was the perfect opportunity to test run the deck - great food, great company and a wonderful way to wind down with family and friends!
